Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Senior Special Assistant on Social Media, Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, has accused some political actors in the state of betraying the people of Kano. He said residents would soon know “who truly betrayed the people of Kano and who stood their ground.”
Hotoro made the statement on Wednesday in a post on his Facebook page, where he listed a series of controversies and scandals he alleged occurred under the previous administration, including the Novemed scandal, the foreign scholarship saga, and fraudulent land sales.
He wrote: “Very soon, people will clearly see who truly betrayed the people of Kano and who stood their ground, insisting that Kano must not be betrayed.”
Hotoro also pointed to irregularities in government contracts, adding: “Questionable contracts for alum and other water-treatment chemicals, and the corruption surrounding the purchase of waterworks equipment, along with several other incidents under the party’s leadership, are what set the stage for the current situation.”
Although he did not mention names, Hotoro indicated that the revelations aimed at exposing those who undermined the welfare of Kano residents.
Meanwhile, former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, described January 23 as “World Betrayal Day.” The Kwankwasiyya Movement leader made the statement during an address to his supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano.
He said the idea of adopting the day stemmed from social media commentators who labelled Governor Yusuf’s exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as an act of betrayal.
Kwankwaso said: “None caught my attention more than one who posted, suggesting that we declare January 23 annually as World Betrayal Day. Therefore, as the leader and grand patron of this movement, I hereby declare that I fully support the declaration.”
Governor Yusuf’s administration has consistently emphasised transparency and accountability, and Hotoro’s post reflects the government’s ongoing stance on combating corruption in the state.
