A legal firm, A.A. Mustapha & Co., has issued a 24-hour demand notice to Mr. Nuhu Sani Dambazau, Senior Special Reporter (SSR) for Higher Education to the Kano State Governor, over an alleged defamatory publication against Mr. Adnan Mukhtar Tudunwada and his family.
The demand notice, dated Jan. 28, was signed by the Head of Chambers, Adam Bashir, Esq., and addressed to Dambazau, accusing him of making “false, malicious and defamatory statements” on a social media platform on Jan. 25.
According to the lawyers, the publication allegedly targeted Tudunwada’s late father and members of his family, accusing the deceased of collecting textile materials and livestock on credit without repayment.
The statement quoted the social media post as saying, in part: “At the time when this boy’s father intended to marry a second wife… the father collected textile materials on credit which up till today remain unpaid… out of sheer shamelessness, he has now come out to make unnecessary statements.”
Reacting, the law firm said the allegations were entirely unfounded and damaging to the reputation of its client and his family.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, our client states that his late father, until his death, was a distinguished legal professional of impeccable character and high professional standing,” the letter read.
It added that Tudunwada’s father died on April 25, 1993, shortly after his appointment as Solicitor General of Kano State, stressing that the claims circulating on social media could not be true.
The solicitors also clarified that Tudunwada’s mother “is a married woman of honour who recently retired from the Kano State Civil Service in December 2025.”
“The allegations contained in your publication are entirely false, malicious and without any factual foundation,” the firm stated, describing the insinuations as baseless and defamatory.
A.A. Mustapha & Co. warned that the publication constituted defamation, which is “criminally and civilly actionable under Nigerian law.”
The firm demanded that Dambazau, within 24 hours of receiving the notice, retract the statements “clearly and unequivocally stating same as false and malicious in the same medium and manner in which they were published.”
It also demanded an “unambiguous and unconditional public apology” to Tudunwada and his family, and a commitment to desist from further defamatory publications.
“Take further notice that where there is failure or refusal to comply with the above demand within the prescribed period, we shall, without further notice, commence legal action for defamation and intentional insult, claiming substantial damages, costs and all other remedies available under the law,” the letter warned.
