The House of Representatives Downstream Petroleum Committee Chairman, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, on Saturday formally received defecting members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the Kano State Commissioner of Water Resources.
The decampees, led by Commissioner Haruna Umar Doguwa, were received at a grand ceremony held in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
At the event, Doguwa, who conducted the APC e-registration for the new members, also launched the President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf 2027 second-term campaign rally.
Speaking during the ceremony, Doguwa urged the defectors to work towards the success of President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf in the 2027 elections.
“We all pledged to work for the overall interest of the APC under the command of His Excellency, President Tinubu at the centre, and the leadership of Governor Yusuf at the state level, as clearly reflected in the party’s constitution and in compliance with the tenets of constitutional democracy,” he said.
He described the integration of the decampees as a “win-win” development for all party members, noting that they are now key drivers of Governor Yusuf’s political project, Kano First.
“I led an all-inclusive approach to the APC registration exercise in Doguwa LGA, where I received, among other prominent NNPP members, the Commissioner of Water Resources and former APC state chairman, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa,” he said.
Others who decamped include Engr. Ado Ibrahim Doguwa, Chairman of Doguwa Local Government, Abdulrashid Doguwa, his executive and legislative team, and several other government officials under Governor Yusuf’s leadership.
Doguwa added that the entire NNPP structures in Tudun-Wada and Doguwa local governments have been absorbed into the APC.
The development follows Governor Yusuf’s own defection to the APC on Monday, alongside 22 lawmakers, eight National Assembly members, and 44 local government chairmen at a ceremony held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
