The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Air Force, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, on Saturday formally received members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the Kano State Commissioner for Tourism and Culture.
The defecting members were led by Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Malami, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Rano constituency, and were welcomed at a ceremony in Rano Local Government Area.
At the event, Rurum urged the new members to complete their APC e-registration and fully integrate into the party.
Speaking to the gathering, he encouraged the defectors to commit their efforts to the party’s growth and activities at both federal and state levels.
He said, “We all pledged to work for the overall interest of the APC under President Bola Tinubu at the centre and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the state level, in line with the party’s constitution and the principles of constitutional democracy.”
Rurum added, “This development is a positive step for all party members. We are now active participants in the Governor’s political agenda, known as ‘Kano First.’”
He also highlighted the prominence of some of the defectors, noting, “Among the notable NNPP members who have joined the APC are the Commissioner of Tourism and Culture, Aisha Lawan Saji, and the Rano State Assembly member, Hon. Ibrahim Malami. Others include Muhammad Naziru Ya’u, Chairman of Rano Local Government, his executive and legislative team, Alhaji Wada Abdullahi Rano, and several other former NNPP members, most of whom hold government positions under Governor Yusuf.”
Rurum further stated that the entire NNPP structure in Rano Local Government has now joined the APC, and he encouraged everyone to actively participate in the party’s activities.
The event follows Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s official defection to the APC last week, alongside 22 state lawmakers, eight National Assembly members, and 44 local government chairmen, in a ceremony held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
