The Federal Government has approved the resumption of three long-abandoned road projects in Jigawa State following years of neglect that reportedly led to frequent road accidents, loss of lives and destruction of property.
Residents of the state had repeatedly raised concerns over the deplorable condition of the affected federal roads, warning that the abandoned projects posed serious threats to public safety.
The approval was disclosed by the State Coordinator of the Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda and former Chairman of Guri Local Government Area, Alhaji Musa Shuaibu Guri, during a visit to the Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani, where he presented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s seasonal greeting card.
Guri said President Tinubu was dissatisfied with the prolonged abandonment of the Gaya–Shiwarin, Gaya–Kafin Hausa and Kwanar Dumawa–Babura road projects, noting that the delays had continued to claim lives and destroy property.
“Mr President is not happy that these important road projects were abandoned for several years, leading to accidents, loss of lives and damage to property,” he said.
According to him, Tinubu has ordered the immediate revocation of the existing contracts and directed that the projects be re-awarded to competent companies to ensure their speedy completion.
Guri also called on traditional rulers to continue praying for peace, unity and stability in the country, describing the President’s seasonal greeting card as a recognition of the vital role of traditional institutions in promoting peace.
He added that the greeting cards would be extended to the five emirate councils in Jigawa State, namely Gumel, Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Dutse.
Responding, the Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani, commended President Tinubu for what he described as his efforts to improve agriculture, education, healthcare and peace across the country.
The monarch assured the Federal Government of the continued support of the emirate towards the successful implementation of its policies and programmes.
