President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday signed the amended Electoral Act into law, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The signing ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, around 5:00 pm, in the presence of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside other principal officers of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly had passed the bill on Tuesday after harmonizing the amendments despite opposition from minority lawmakers.
The new law has reignited debates over the electronic transmission of election results.
The 2027 general elections are scheduled to hold on February 20 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and March 6 for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
