Sule Lamido University in Jigawa state has announced the death of its Pioneer Director, Counselling and Human Development Centre, Professor Umma AbdulWahid, who died in a ghastly motor accident along Kano-Zaria Road.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of the university, Sadiq Lawal, on Wednesday.
“It is with utmost grief that the University wishes to formally announce the passing away of the Pioneer Director Counselling and Human Development Centre of the University, Professor Umma AbdulWahid who passed away following a ghastly motor accident along Kano-Zaria Road on Wednesday 18th February, 2026,” the statement read.
The late professor, a native of Dabi Town in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was a Professor of Educational Psychology in the Department of Education.
The university said she previously served as the Pioneer Provost of the Federal Capital Territory College of Education, Zuba, and was also a member of the Technical Committee for the establishment of the institution, now known as Sule Lamido University.
According to the statement, she held several key positions in the university, including Pioneer Director of the School of General and Preliminary Studies, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Education, and Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, a position she occupied until her death.
A family source, Shehu Lawan Dabi, described the deceased as “an epitome of philanthropy,” noting that she sponsored more than 85 youths to institutions of higher learning.
He added that “at least 350 individuals benefitted from her benevolence as she secured them jobs in various sectors of the economy.”
Professor Umma died at the age of 70 and is survived by her two daughters, Hadiza and Hannatu, and other relatives.
The university prayed that Allah grants her eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and her family the fortitude to bear the loss.
