The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that Nigeria’s media industry trusts President Bola Tinubu’s leadership to drive sustainable growth and national development.
Idris made the disclosure on Friday at the State House in Abuja during a meeting between President Tinubu and top representatives of the Nigerian media.
Executives from the Nigeria Press Organisation (NPO), Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) were among those in attendance.
Speaking at the event, the Minister emphasised that the administration recognises the crucial role of the media in promoting democracy, transparency, and national progress.
He also disclosed that the Federal Government has initiated talks with major global technology firms, including Meta and Google, to address concerns over their influence on Nigeria’s media landscape.
“All relevant regulatory agencies are already engaging these big technology companies. The President is determined to ensure that no organisation benefits from Nigeria’s economy without making meaningful contributions in return,” Idris said.
The Minister further assured media stakeholders of the administration’s commitment to protecting press freedom, noting that President Tinubu has never sought to interfere with media operations.
