Over 150 Suspected Bandits Drown in Sokoto Boat Tragedy

At least 150 suspected bandits reportedly drowned following a boat accident in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State on Saturday evening.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, told Kano Times that the incident occurred when a boat carrying a large number of armed men capsized while attempting to cross a water body in the area.

Local sources said the bandits were travelling in large numbers when the vessel suddenly overturned, throwing all occupants into the water.

“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, which led to heavy casualties,” a source disclosed to Kano Times.

Initial reports indicated that none of the occupants survived the mishap. However, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.

If verified, the tragedy could deal a major blow to criminal networks operating across parts of the North-West region.
