Gunmen have reportedly killed several soldiers and police personnel in an ambush at Giro Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, also claimed the lives of two residents of the community.
According to sources, the armed men had earlier invaded the area and operated for hours before security personnel tracked their movement to a construction company yard.
It was gathered that troops were mobilised to the scene following a tip-off from residents, but were ambushed by the gunmen while en route.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the attackers stormed the village and moved towards the construction site.
“The gunmen came into our village and were heading towards the construction company yard. We alerted security personnel, but they were ambushed,” the source said.
The assailants were also said to have set ablaze two military gun trucks during the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
