Dr. Isah Nasidi, a lecturer at Baze University, Abuja, and an indigene of Dala Local Government, Kano State, has described Kano State’s performance in the education sector as “clearly poor,” urging government authorities to be more accountable.
Dr. Nasidi made the remarks on his Facebook page on Friday, warning that images circulated showing renovated schools could be misleading.
“In the education sector, Abba’s performance is clearly poor,” he wrote. “Images like these may mislead people into believing that primary and secondary education in Kano has been improved. But renovating a few schools while leaving thousands in filth, neglect, and disgrace cannot earn our praise.”
He further emphasized the need to challenge what he described as false narratives about educational progress in the state. “Regarding education, we will challenge these falsehoods because the future of innocent children is at stake,” Dr. Nasidi said.
His comments come amid Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s allocation of N405 billion in the 2026 budget—about 30 percent of total expenditure—to the Ministry of Education. Critics, however, have raised concerns about whether the funding will translate into meaningful improvements in schools across the state.
Dr. Nasidi’s statement has reignited debates on the state of primary and secondary education in Kano, with stakeholders urging transparency and prioritization of resources to ensure that educational facilities meet acceptable standards.
