Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has donated a 50kg bag of rice and N20,000 to the family of the late Abdullahi Yakubu, former state correspondent of Leadership newspaper, as part of Eid El-Fitr celebrations.
Chairman of the chapel, Murtala Adewale, described Yakubu as a dedicated journalist who contributed greatly to society, adding that the support was aimed at bringing comfort to his family.
Receiving the donation, Yakubu’s eldest son, Yakubu Abdullahi Yakubu, expressed gratitude to the chapel for their gesture.
Speaking at the event, NUJ National President Comrade Alhassan Yahya praised the Kano chapel for fostering unity and compassion among journalists, urging members to reflect on the values of Ramadan and Sallah, including peace, tolerance, and integrity.
The ceremony, chaired by Prof. Yakubu Mai Nasara Kurfi of Bayero University, Kano, was described as heartwarming and inspiring.
Prof. Kurfi called for collaboration between the NUJ, journalists, and the university to enhance professional training.
Comrade Adewale urged members to carry forward the lessons of empathy and responsibility in both their journalism and daily lives, reminding them to support the less privileged in society.
