Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has claimed that the pattern of killings across Nigeria points to clandestine foreign intelligence operations.
Gumi made the assertion in a Facebook post on Tuesday, following a recent attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North area of Plateau State, which left over 20 persons dead and several others injured.
The cleric condemned the continuous killing of innocent citizens, insisting that the violence has no connection with religion.
According to him, “The pattern suggests a clandestine foreign intelligence operations. It has nothing to do with religion. Many unscrupulous Nigerians are willing to serve as foot soldiers for these mercenaries.”
He cited recent incidents, including coordinated bomb blasts in Maiduguri on March 16, 2026, which reportedly claimed at least 23 lives and left over 100 others injured.
Gumi also referenced the March 29 attack in Jos, carried out during Palm Sunday, where gunmen reportedly killed and injured several residents.
He further noted that members of the Nigerian Army have also been victims of similar attacks.
The Kaduna-based cleric called for a rethink of Nigeria’s security strategy, urging authorities to “look out of the box” and limit foreign involvement in the country’s security architecture.
He advised the Federal Government to seek support from what he described as “benign superpowers” for satellite intelligence and military equipment while building local capacity.
Gumi also prayed for the recovery of the injured and comfort for families who lost loved ones in the attacks.
