Bandits Abduct Nine, Injure Two in Sokoto

Suspected bandits have abducted nine residents and injured two others in Chacho community, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A relative of one of the victims, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the gunmen invaded the village around 11:00 pm on Wednesday.

The attackers reportedly entered through a route linking the community to the Sabon Birni forest, a known bandit hideout.

He said seven women and two elderly men were taken during the raid, while two other residents sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

“We were sleeping outside when someone raised the alarm. We fled for our lives as gunshots rang out from another part of the village,” he said.

Residents decried the rising spate of banditry in the area, blaming the absence of security personnel.

Confirming the attack, Sokoto Police spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, said authorities were still verifying the exact number of abducted victims.
