The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark is lawful and in line with a subsisting court judgment.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja while reacting to the development.
Morka dismissed claims by the ADC blaming the ruling party for its internal crisis, describing the allegation as baseless.
“ADC is highly escapist and irresponsible to blame APC for its internal woes of which they are the sole architects,” he said.
He maintained that INEC’s action was justified and consistent with democratic principles.
“INEC’s decision to derecognise the factional David Mark-led executives of the ADC is in compliance with court judgment and valid in law.
“It is justified and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice. It is the consequence of the party’s reckless and desperate misadventure,” he added.
The APC spokesman further described the ADC as a platform driven by desperate politicians and conspiracy theories against the ruling party.
According to him, the party has been engulfed in internal crisis due to alleged unconstitutional actions by its factional leaders, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.
He argued that the ADC’s inability to manage its internal affairs renders it unfit to be taken seriously by Nigerians.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot fix Nigeria,” Morka said.
He added that the ADC has nothing to offer beyond criticisms of the APC.
“Our great party and President Bola Tinubu remain steadfast in delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda, strengthening democratic institutions for peace and prosperity,” he said.
