Kano State Police Command on Thursday held a roundtable with members of the Kano Network of NGOs (KANET) as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The meeting, held at the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, focused on strategies to prevent election-related violence in the state.
In a statement signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, the Command emphasized the importance of cooperation with civil society groups.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment and calls on all stakeholders to join hands in preventing election violence and promoting a culture of peace,” the statement said.
Speaking at the session, Barrister Nura Ahmad Muhammad, Chairman of KANET, commended the Police for the initiative.
“This roundtable is a welcome step in building trust between security agencies and civil society actors. Our network is ready to collaborate with the Police to ensure a violence-free election in Kano,” he said.
Zainab Nasir Ahmad, Co-Chair of KANET, also highlighted the role of NGOs in community engagement.
“We see ourselves as partners in peace. Through awareness campaigns and community sensitization, KANET will support the Police in promoting peaceful voting practices,” she stated.
During the interactive session, participants discussed key areas of collaboration, exchanged ideas, and developed strategies to educate citizens on the importance of peaceful elections.
The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure electoral environment and urged all organizations, community leaders, and residents to actively support peace-building initiatives ahead of the elections.
