Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a soldier in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the state police headquarters in Jos, where he is expected to be paraded by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, invited journalists to witness the parade.
“This is to inform you that the Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fake soldier in Angwan Rukuba. Therefore, the Commissioner of Police will be parading the suspect on Wednesday evening,” the statement read.
The arrest comes amid intensified security operations in Jos following a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, which reportedly claimed 28 lives.
It also follows the Plateau State Government’s decision to relax the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed in parts of the state capital due to rising insecurity.
Meanwhile, the University of Jos has directed students to vacate hostels in response to the deteriorating security situation.
The police had earlier assured residents that joint security agencies were working to restore normalcy and maintain law and order in the affected areas.
The Commissioner of Police is expected to provide more details on the suspect and his alleged activities during the parade.
