President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will defeat banditry and terrorism across the country.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Saturday while speaking at the inauguration of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, alongside several other projects.
The President noted that the deployment of security vehicles at the event underscores his government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“We will win over banditry and terrorism. I give you the assurance that we will invest more in our people. The deployment of additional vehicles is strengthening our resolve to protect lives and property,” he said.
Tinubu also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and dedication.
“Thank God for our youth. They are committed, brilliant, and working hard. Nigeria, our country, is resolved to be great and is on the path of greatness once again,” he added.
The event, presided over by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, was initially scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, but was postponed following the President’s trip to Jos, Plateau State, to commiserate with victims of a recent attack.
Gunmen had on March 29 invaded Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, killing at least 28 persons and injuring several others.
Speaking further, Tinubu described the airport as a landmark project, noting that it operates on an independent power supply.
“Today, we have virtually commissioned the project. This airport is separately connected to independent power through our investments in gas and energy,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of the mobility, security, and agricultural initiatives unveiled at the event.
According to him, the introduction of 1,000 electric bikes reflects a modern approach to transportation.
“The commissioning of 1,000 electric bikes is a smart response to modern transportation needs, embracing technology rather than fossil fuels to improve daily life,” Tinubu said.
Meanwhile, the President paid respect to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, who were present to receive him at the airport.
Tinubu, in a video captured at the event, was seen bowing as he exchanged pleasantries with the elder statesmen, while Governor Abiodun, former Governor Gbenga Daniel, and other dignitaries looked on.
The President subsequently commissioned the Gateway International Cargo Airport, inaugurated two commercial aircraft for Gateway Air, operated in partnership with ValueJet, and unveiled a new office complex for the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service.
He also handed over operational vehicles at the facility.
