Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has disclosed that he underwent throat surgery days after his interview with Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hasan.
Bwala made the revelation on Friday during an interview on News Central’s “60 Minutes with Mr Kay,” where he addressed reactions that trailed viral clips from the broadcast.
According to him, the medical procedure took place eight days after the controversial interview.
“Eight days after the interview with Mehdi Hasan, I underwent surgery on my throat,” he said. “I’m not sure if it was the ‘Obidient’ people, but I’m back and strong.”
The presidential aide also criticised supporters of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as “Obidients,” accusing them of being driven by political loyalty rather than national interest.
He alleged that some social media users within the group engage in coordinated attacks to promote their political views, regardless of the impact on the country.
Bwala further defended his performance during the Al Jazeera interview, describing the session as confrontational.
He said the first part of the interview focused on his past criticisms of President Bola Tinubu when he was in opposition, adding that he acknowledged his previous positions but attempted to steer the discussion toward other issues.
Bwala added that he urged the interviewer to move on from repeated questions, but said the line of questioning continued, leading to disagreements during the session.
