The Chairman of Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, Abubakar Barau, has raised concerns over the quality and pace of work on an ongoing five-kilometre road project in the area.
The concerns were contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the chairman’s spokesperson, Ammar Shanono, following an inspection of the project site.
According to the statement, Mr Barau, who visited the site on Friday morning, identified several issues affecting the project’s execution.
“During the visit, Hon. Abubakar Barau observed several shortcomings, particularly poor drainage construction, lack of adherence to quality standards, and the slow pace of work by the contractor,” the statement said.
The chairman directed the contractor handling the project to immediately improve the quality of work and speed up construction to meet expected standards.
“The Chairman has therefore directed the contractor to immediately review and improve his approach to work in order to meet the expected standards,” the statement added.
It also warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to further action.
“He warned that failure to comply would leave the Local Government with no option but to report the matter to the State Government for possible replacement of the contractor,” the statement said.
Mr Barau reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects that meet required standards.
“Hon. Barau reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering durable and high-quality infrastructure projects that will benefit the people of Shanono,” the statement noted.
He also appealed to residents of the area to remain patient as efforts are being made to address the identified challenges.
“He urged residents to remain calm and patient, assuring them that necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the project is executed in line with required standards and specifications,” the statement added.
