A former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has declared his intention to contest for the Kano North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Gwarzo made the declaration on April 18, 2027, stating that his decision followed consultations, reflection, and prayers.
“It is against this backdrop that I humbly and solemnly accept your call,” he said.
He confirmed that he would contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Kano North seat is currently occupied by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.
Gwarzo’s declaration is seen as a direct challenge to the incumbent.
Observers say the move may not be unconnected to political developments in Kano State.
There have been allegations that Jibrin influenced the blocking of the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor.
Some aides of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf were also reportedly present at Gwarzo’s declaration.
This has further fueled speculation of possible backing from within the state government.
As of the time of filing this report, Jibrin has yet to react to the development.
The development signals what may become a keenly contested race for the Kano North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
