Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commended President Bola Tinubu for the Federal Government’s support to agriculture following the delivery of 33 trucks of subsidised fertiliser to the state.
The governor spoke on Thursday while flagging off the distribution of the fertiliser to farmers across Kano, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Yusuf described the intervention as timely, saying it reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture and improving food security.
“We have received 33 trucks of fertilizer from the Federal Government. On behalf of the Government and good people of Kano State, I wish to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for this valuable intervention and his continued support to our state,” he said.
The governor also thanked the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her humanitarian support to vulnerable groups in Kano, including women, youths, the elderly and farmers.
Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, lauded Yusuf for ensuring the prompt distribution of the fertiliser to farmers.
Represented by Dahiru Abbas, the minister said timely delivery would enable beneficiaries to maximise the current farming season.
He added that 23,800 farmers in Kano would also benefit from the Federal Government’s agricultural support programme through the provision of farm implements and other inputs for rice, maize and other crop value chains.
The fertiliser is being sold at a 50 per cent subsidy, reducing the price from ₦50,000 to ₦25,000 per bag to support farmers and boost food production.
