The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of N2 billion over an alleged $2.63 million money laundering case.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who delivered a brief ruling on Monday, admitted Bodejo to bail with two sureties in like sum.
The court ruled that one of the sureties must be an Abuja resident with evidence of three years’ tax clearance, while the second must own landed property in Abuja valued at N2 billion, subject to verification by the court.
Justice Ekwo also ordered Bodejo to surrender his international passport and prohibited him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s permission.
The judge held that the offences were bailable and fixed October 5, 6 and 7 for the commencement of trial.
Bodejo had earlier pleaded not guilty after being arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The anti-graft agency accused him of unlawfully receiving cash payments totalling about $2.63 million from a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sa’idu Abubakar, without routing the transactions through a financial institution as required by law.
According to the EFCC, the transactions were allegedly carried out between 2022 and 2024 and exceeded the legal cash transaction threshold, thereby violating the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
