2027: INEC Ends Controversy Over Shehu Buba’s PRP Ticket

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the name and particulars of Sen. Shehu Buba Umar as the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.

The commission also published the name of Umar’s running mate and those of the party’s candidates for the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The publication was made pursuant to Section 29(3) of the 2026 Electoral Act.

The development has also put to rest recent controversies surrounding the authenticity of the PRP governorship ticket, the deputy governorship candidacy and the party’s Assembly candidates in the state.

Reacting to the development, Umar described the publication as a significant milestone for the party and its supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Praise be to Allah. The issue surrounding the authenticity of my candidature, that of my deputy and the PRP candidates for the State House of Assembly has now been put to rest,” he said.

The senator urged members and supporters of the party, as well as other stakeholders, to remain united and focused on issues affecting the people of Bauchi.

He said the party would base its campaign on issues, democratic principles and its commitment to providing an alternative political platform for the people of the state.

Umar also reiterated his commitment to pursuing a people-oriented development agenda if elected governor in 2027.
