The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-off N4,000 fee for the verification of candidates’ WASSCE or O’Level results.
The two bodies announced the new arrangement in a joint statement on Tuesday, saying candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions would only need to verify their results once through the JAMB Verification Service platform.
According to the statement, WAEC has authorised JAMB to share verified results with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
“This arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” they said.
JAMB and WAEC directed institutions to use the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening and other administrative purposes.
They warned that institutions must not demand additional payments from candidates for verification of the same WAEC result.
The bodies said the initiative was introduced to reduce the financial and administrative burden on candidates and simplify the admission process.
They added that candidates could complete the verification process from home or any internet-enabled location, without repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to use the approved platform and stressed that the N4,000 fee should not be paid to individual institutions.
