The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted three officers from Rano Local Government Area of Kano State to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) in its latest promotion exercise.
The officers—ACP Abdullahi Bala Rano, ACP Muhammad Saleh Rano, and ACP Saminu Umar Madachi—were among 145 Chief Superintendents of Police elevated to the ACP rank.
The exercise covered officers from both General Duty and specialized units, including medical, forensic, and aviation departments.
According to a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, PSC also promoted 12 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General (AIG), 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, and 27 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.
“The Police Force of the 21st Century must be good enough to hold their own anywhere and ensure that Nigeria is freed from criminals and criminality,” the PSC Chairman was quoted as saying in the statement. He urged the newly promoted officers to “rededicate themselves to the service of their nation.”
The Commission stated that the promotion process was based on examinations and interviews coordinated by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), fdc, who chaired the Standing Committee on Police Matters and submitted the report for ratification.
One officer was dropped from the promotion list for being absent during the process.
The PSC also approved the promotion of 29 Superintendents of Police—specialists in Information Technology, Works, and Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS)—to Chief Superintendents. In addition, 38 Deputy Superintendents, also drawn from specialist units, were promoted to Superintendent level.
Some of the promoted AIGs include CP Johnson Oluwole Adenola of Oyo State Command, CP Ahmadu Tijani Abdullahi of Jigawa State, and CP Ronke Nurat Okunade of the Special Fraud Unit, FCID Annex Lagos.
Among the newly promoted ACPs are Zubairu Maina, Olufikayo Abimbola Fawole, Stephen Olusola Olatise, Buhari Abdullahi, and Akaniyere Etuk. Others include Lateef Jaiyeola from Force Education, Chinedum Aniagbaso from ICT, Force Headquarters, and Olabode Olawole from the Airwing Unit.
DIG Argungu, who supervised the examination stage, said: “The promotion exams have come to stay in line with global best practices and officers must sit up or be shown the way out.”
The PSC concluded the statement by noting that those promoted are now expected to perform according to the responsibilities attached to their new ranks.
