The Governing Council of the Federal University of Kashere (FUKashere), Gombe State, has announced the commencement of the process to appoint a new Vice Chancellor, as the tenure of the current officeholder will end in February 2026.
A statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Nasir Lawal Abdullahi, said the position will become vacant on February 10, 2026, and applications are invited from qualified professors with “cognate experience in university teaching and administration.”
The university, established in 2011 and recognised for “accelerated expansion and excellence in academic activities,” currently has six faculties, a College of Medical Sciences, a School of Postgraduate Studies, 44 undergraduate programmes, and 49 postgraduate programmes.
“The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and Chairman of Senate,” the statement said, adding that the occupant of the position “shall be the embodiment and symbol of the vision and mission of the University.”
The position has a single five-year tenure, and applicants must not be older than 65 years by the time the vacancy takes effect.
The statement outlined the qualities expected of candidates, stating that they must be “distinguished scholars with outstanding academic leadership and administrative records,” and have held senior positions such as Head of Department, Director, Dean, Provost, or Deputy Vice Chancellor in a recognised university.
Other requirements include high moral standards, integrity, accountability, and transparency. “The candidate must be a proficient scholar with ICT skills relevant to contemporary trends, capable of attracting research grants and fostering productive relationships with government, alumni, staff and students’ unions, as well as public and private organisations,” the statement added.
Interested applicants are to submit 25 copies of their application and curriculum vitae, along with a 500-word vision and mission statement for the university.
Applications must be addressed to the Registrar and sent by courier.
The statement further said “referees’ reports must be sent under confidential cover, with at least one referee from the applicant’s current or last place of work.”
