The Kano State Police Command has summoned the Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government Council, Mrs Sa’adatu Salisu, over allegations of leading thugs to attack factory workers in the area.
Mrs Salisu, who also serves as the Chairperson of the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was accused of ordering her orderly to open fire on workers of Tasarrufi General Enterprise during a demolition exercise.
Spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the development in Kano.
“There is a formal complaint against the ALGON chairperson. All the witnesses and the suspect have been summoned. The orderly to the ALGON chairperson has also been recalled to the command to give account of the matter,” he said.
The manager of the company, Malam Suyudi Umar, alleged that the chairperson returned to the factory premises with thugs after earlier instructing him to vacate the site.
He said the attackers, numbering over 200, stormed the site with weapons, leaving several workers injured.
One of the victims, Malam Mustapha Bashir, alleged that he sustained a gunshot injury while trying to shield his manager. Another worker, Malam Khalifa Suyudi, also claimed he suffered a fracture on his arm during the attack.
According to the workers, the factory was located outside the construction project area and had been cleared by the project engineer.
They said they reported the matter to the police headquarters in Bompai, Kano, seeking justice.
Efforts to reach Mrs Salisu for comment were unsuccessful as her mobile number was not reachable.
