Tinubu Summons Ex-Rivers Administrator Ibas to Aso Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday summoned the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ibas, who left office on September 17 following the expiration of the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state, arrived at the Villa around 5:50pm. He was received in company of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

His visit came amid moves by the Rivers State House of Assembly to probe the financial transactions that took place during his tenure.

The lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had resolved to investigate spending from the consolidated revenue fund, contract awards and other expenditures under the emergency rule.

Part of the House resolution stated that the probe was “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”

However, Ibas has openly rejected the decision of the Assembly to scrutinise his administration’s finances.
