NPFL: Barau FC record first away triumph of season

Barau Football Club secured their first victory of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday, defeating Kun Khalifat FC 3-1 in Aba.

The Matchday 6 clash at the Enyimba International Stadium marked Barau FC’s first away win in the NPFL, lifting them off the bottom of the table to 18th place with five points from five games.

Kun Khalifat opened scoring in the 14th minute, but Barau’s Yahya Ibrahim equalised two minutes later with a close-range finish from Sai’du Salisu’s assist. Hilary Ekawu put the visitors in front in the 64th minute before Ibrahim sealed the result with his second goal of the match, taking his season tally to three.

Barau FC’s media director, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, described the victory as a “turning point” in the club’s campaign.

“This triumph also marked Barau FC’s first win of the current Nigeria Premier Football League 2025/2026 campaign,” Gwale said in a statement.

Technical Adviser Ladan Bosso credited the team’s resilience. “Actually, I am so happy with the result. Our club proprietor, the general manager, my coaching staff, officials, and players all did well to secure this victory,” Bosso told reporters after the match.

Striker Ibrahim dedicated his brace to his family. “I am delighted to score two goals today. This victory is for my parents, for their prayers and support,” he said.

Barau FC, nicknamed the Maliya Boys, will face Warri Wolves at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on October 5in Matchday 7.
