Nigeria’s police said on Wednesday they will begin nationwide enforcement of tinted glass permits on Oct. 2, ending a grace period for motorists to obtain or renew the documents.
The directive, issued by Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, will apply to vehicles across the country, with initial focus on the capital, Abuja, and neighbouring Niger State, police said in a statement.
“The enforcement is in strict compliance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, which remains a vital security regulation used to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety,” said ASP Mohammed Halima, spokesperson for the Zone 7 police command.
Motorists driving vehicles with tinted windows must carry valid permits or face sanctions, including vehicle impoundment and prosecution, police said.
Applications and renewals for the permits are available through the official police portal www.possap.gov.ng
“Compliance with this directive is not only a legal duty but a collective effort toward ensuring public safety and national security,” the statement said.
