The Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Alhaji Umar Tanko Yakassai, says northerners will support and work for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Yakassai stated this on Thursday in Akure during the inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the Tinubu Support Group and the decoration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the group’s Grand Patron.
He said the North owed President Tinubu moral support in view of his political alliance with the region in previous elections.
“If Asiwaju supported Buhari in 2017 and repeated the same feat with success in 2023, it has become a moral imperative for all of us northerners to reciprocate. It is an honour for us to be morally conscious, morally right, and support his second-term bid,” Yakassai said.
He dismissed criticisms of President Tinubu from some northern voices, describing such dissenters as insignificant.
“If you hear a few voices claiming to oppose President Tinubu, they are mostly people fingered in corruption, fraud, or those who have not found space in government. They represent an infinitesimal fraction of the electorate,” he added.
Yakassai said the Tinubu Support Group remained the umbrella body coordinating all pro-Tinubu movements across the country.
“TSG has served and will continue to serve as the coordinating platform for all groups working to promote the Tinubu presidency and secure his re-election,” he said.
In his remarks, the TSG Director-General in Ondo State, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, urged residents and political groups to rally behind the Tinubu administration.
Adegoroye, a former Minister of Transport, said Ondo State had benefited from several federal projects under the Tinubu-led administration.
He listed some of the projects as the construction of Akure–Ado Road, Ore–Akure Road, Lagos–Calabar Superhighway, Ilesha–Benin Road via Owo and Ose LGAs, Ekiti–Akoko Road, FUTA Teaching Hospital, and the College of Aviation.
He said these projects, along with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements, would form a strong basis for the 2027 campaign.
Responding after his investiture, Governor Aiyedatiwa commended members of the group, describing them as “movers and shakers of Ondo politics.”
He said their presence in the TSG would make the task of mobilising support for the President’s re-election easier.
The governor assured that Ondo State would play a major role in ensuring continuity for the Tinubu administration.
