Kano State Government has approved Nine Hundred and Fifteen Million, Thirty-Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Four Naira, Forty Kobo (₦915,034,904.40) for the construction of a water treatment plant in Taliwaiwai, Rano Local Government Area.
The approval was announced during the 33rd meeting of the Kano State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.
According to the Council’s outcomes, a total of ₦3.33 billion has been allocated to projects under the Ministry of Water Resources to improve water supply and energy management. This includes ₦670 million for Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) electricity bills covering three months, ₦1.75 billion for diesel and petrol supplies to water treatment plants and the State Water Board Headquarters, and ₦915 million for the Rano water project.
Governor Yusuf said the construction of the Rano Water Treatment Plant reflects his administration’s commitment to providing clean and safe water to residents, especially in underserved rural communities.
He added that the investments in water infrastructure would enhance quality of life, promote public health, and support socio-economic development across the state.
The Council also approved ₦19.01 billion for projects across key sectors, including education, health, works and infrastructure, power and renewable energy, as well as housing and mineral resources. Among these are ₦2.54 billion for the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo, ₦400 million for office furniture at Northwest University, Kano, and ₦164.7 million for the renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital.
Other decisions include the construction of 50 low-cost houses across 36 local government areas, the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, and the adoption of the Kano State Electricity Policy.
Governor Yusuf has received recognition for his leadership, including the Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and being ranked the fourth best-performing state on climate governance in Nigeria for 2025.
The Rano water project is expected to improve potable water supply in the local government area and surrounding communities.
