Kano Govt Recruits 400 Maths Teachers

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 400 newly recruited mathematics teachers in an effort to close subject gaps across secondary schools, his spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the statement signed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said the recruitment was undertaken to address declining performance in core subjects and to better prepare students for future careers.

“The recruitment is a direct response to subject gaps affecting performance and career readiness among our students,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Yusuf said mathematics remains central to scientific and technological advancement, noting that Kano must strengthen its foundation to remain competitive.

“Mathematics is the foundation of science, technology, engineering and innovation, and Kano must build a strong base to compete effectively in a knowledge-driven world,” the governor said.

He added that the new teachers are expected to boost teaching quality, improve examination results and expand students’ access to STEM-related opportunities.

The statement said Yusuf commended the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for what he described as a transparent recruitment process.

He urged the newly hired teachers to demonstrate professionalism and commitment. “You must justify the confidence reposed in you,” the governor said.
