The Federal Government has intensified security measures in schools across the country following a surge in abductions of students and teachers.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed on his verified social media account on Friday that the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Adeola Ajayi, briefed President Bola Tinubu on the prevailing security situation.
The development comes amid recent attacks in Kebbi and Niger states, which have seen students and teachers abducted by armed assailants. In response, the Federal Government ordered the closure of 47 Unity Schools nationwide, while authorities in Katsina and Plateau states also shut down secondary schools.
In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas directed all public and private secondary schools to immediately deboard students as a precautionary measure against further kidnappings.
The abductions have drawn global condemnation, with the United Nations and Amnesty International calling for urgent action to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
Security agencies are actively investigating the incidents and coordinating efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted students and teachers.
