The Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Mr. Auwal Rafsanjani, on Monday urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from Very Important Persons (VIPs) is implemented without discrimination.
Rafsanjani made the call during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television.
He said a non-selective implementation of the directive would help address imbalances in security deployment, noting that some individuals still enjoy police escorts in social environments while several communities lack adequate policing.
“I hope the President’s directive will be fully implemented and not applied selectively. It is worrisome that some people move with police escorts even to clubs and lounges, while many communities remain without basic police presence,” he said.
Rafsanjani said the withdrawal of police personnel from non-governmental VIPs would enable security agencies to redeploy officers to vulnerable communities.
He decried what he described as misplaced priorities, adding that many areas suffer repeated attacks due to inadequate policing.
He also questioned the effectiveness of checkpoints, noting that criminal activities often occur shortly after vehicles pass such points despite the heavy deployment of operatives on major roads.
