Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said on Monday he is working to establish an independent Hisbah Commission aimed at providing opportunities for 12,000 Hisbah officers recently dismissed by the state government.
Ganduje who is immediate past All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman made the disclosure today Tuesday while receiving the report of a committee he set up to review the circumstances surrounding the dismissals under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The officers affected include members of the Hisbah Corps, Hisbah Marshal, and the Advisory Unit.
Speaking during the briefing, Ganduje said the proposed commission, to be set up under the Ganduje Foundation, would allow the officers to continue performing religious and moral duties across the state.
The committee, chaired by former Kano State Hisbah Board Commander Dr. Haruna Ibn Sina, includes former KAROTA Managing Director Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi and other senior scholars.
The panel’s report contains recommendations on how to support and revive the services of the dismissed personnel and ensure their long-term sustainability.
