Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has condemned the bandit attacks on Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, which resulted in the death of three persons and the abduction of several women and children.
Ganduje stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday by his former Chief of Staff and ex-Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba.
He described the incidents as “tragic, painful and deeply distressing,” adding that the attacks amounted to “a direct assault on communal peace and social stability.”
The former governor commiserated with families of the deceased and affected communities, saying the trauma of the incidents required urgent support and coordinated intervention from relevant authorities.
Ganduje urged the Kano State Government to adopt proactive, intelligence-led and community-based security strategies to check the rising threats, warning that the situation “is assuming a worrisome proportion that cannot be ignored.”
He said the state could draw from security approaches adopted during his administration between 2015 and 2023, including strengthened vigilance groups, community policing, intelligence sharing and closer coordination among security agencies.
According to him, these initiatives helped curb rural banditry, deter urban crime and stabilise security across the state during his tenure.
Ganduje commended the governments of Niger, Kwara and Kebbi States for what he called their “effective and decisive handling” of similar security challenges, noting their swift responses and strong community engagement.
He also lauded President Bola Tinubu for ongoing efforts to modernise the armed forces and strengthen the national security architecture, saying the initiatives demonstrate “strong political will and clear determination to secure the country.”
Ganduje urged residents of Shanono and Tsanyawa to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies through timely sharing of information.
He emphasised that addressing insecurity required “collective responsibility and synergy among citizens, traditional institutions, government authorities and security agencies.”
The former governor reassured the affected communities that leaders at various levels remain committed to supporting ongoing security efforts.
