Gunmen have abducted five persons in a fresh attack on Lakwaya town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at Zurin Mahauta village, causing fear and tension among residents of the community.
Confirming the attack, the village head of Zurin Mahauta, Alhaji Murtala Mai Unguwa, said the assailants stormed the area under the cover of darkness and took the victims to an unknown destination.
Mai Unguwa said security operatives were immediately alerted and responded promptly, adding that efforts were ongoing to track the abductors and rescue the victims.
He said residents of the community were worried by the recurring attacks and appealed for sustained security presence to safeguard lives and property.
Also confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, said five persons were kidnapped during the attack.
“Only five people were abducted and troops are doing their best to ensure their safe return to their families,” Zubairu said.
