Access Bank Plc has commissioned a solar-powered borehole water system in Tudun Murtala community, Kano State, in a bid to improve access to potable water and enhance public health.
The project, funded by the bank’s Retail Operations Group (ROG), is part of its strategic commitment to providing sustainable and reliable water solutions to underserved communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Charles Ihenacho, Zonal Head of Operations, represented by Mohammed Yusuf, Branch Head of Operations, described the project as transformative for the community.
He said the initiative was aimed at eliminating perennial water shortages and improving public health standards.
“Access Bank is dedicated to more than just financial services; we are committed to the lifeblood of the communities we serve,” Yusuf said.
“This solar-powered system ensures that the residents of Tudun Murtala have a reliable and eco-friendly water source that will serve them for years to come, significantly enhancing local hygiene standards.”
The project received commendation from local leaders. The District Head of Tudun Murtala, Aliyu Saleh Mai Fata, who facilitated community cooperation, described the intervention as life-changing, particularly for women and children.
“This is a timely and impactful gift to our people,” the District Head said. “Access Bank has shown true corporate leadership by addressing one of our most pressing challenges. We pledge to take full ownership of this facility and ensure its protection and maintenance.”
The commissioning ceremony concluded with the official turning of the tap, as residents celebrated the immediate availability of clean water. Access Bank officials encouraged the community to maintain the facility to ensure its continued service.
The initiative marks another milestone in Access Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts in Northern Nigeria.
