The founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has called on Nigerians, regardless of their social, ethnic, or political affiliations, to support the reelection of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In a statement released on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, Maharaj Ji also urged the Department of State Services (DSS) not to arrest Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over his alleged comments on the 2027 general election.
Reacting to the controversy surrounding remarks attributed to Adeyemo, Maharaj Ji described him as a committed advocate for human rights. He noted that the situation was being exaggerated and stressed that expressing strong opinions on national issues should not automatically attract threats of arrest or intimidation.
“Adeyemo has consistently positioned himself as a defender of his people. His actions and statements should be viewed within the context of advocacy rather than incitement,” Maharaj Ji said.
Earlier, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) had urged the DSS to invite and, if necessary, arrest Adeyemo over alleged threats against opposition politicians in the South-West.
The call followed a viral video and audio clip in which Adeyemo reportedly warned that political opponents of Tinubu, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, should not campaign in Yoruba land.
“These statements are dangerous, unlawful, and capable of inciting political violence,” HURIWA National Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko said in a statement.
Maharaj Ji, however, maintained that democracy thrives when citizens are allowed to speak freely. He warned that attempts to silence voices like Adeyemo’s could undermine justice, fairness, and freedom of expression. He urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid politicizing the controversy, stressing the importance of dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
“We cannot sit by while people driven by religious, tribal, and ethnic sentiments disregard the rule of law and the national consensus on power shift, while remaining silent during deadly attacks by AK-47-wielding herdsmen destroying farms in Benue and other southern states to create food shortages and social discord,” he said.
Maharaj Ji also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “more advanced in global politics than all his predecessors” and capable of transforming the aspirations of Nigerians into reality. He highlighted Adeyemo’s role in raising concerns about justice and community protection, describing him as a figure driven by conviction and the desire to defend people’s rights—echoing principles of peace, love, and harmony similar to those of the President.
In the statement, Maharaj Ji congratulated Tinubu on his 74th birthday, commending his resilience and guidance during challenging times. He urged Nigerians, particularly youths and students, to ignore what he described as a “negative Western-style information war” against the President.
“Continuity in leadership will help sustain progress and strengthen unity, especially given that many of the nation’s problems stem from a lack of leaders who can unite the tribes,” he added.
He further appealed to critics to adopt constructive approaches, noting that nation-building requires collective responsibility rather than constant division and political hostility.
Maharaj Ji expressed confidence that ongoing government policies will yield positive results and reiterated that unity, cooperation, and continued support for the government are essential for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.
