The Federal Government has issued a warning that several locations across 10 states may experience heavy rainfall between April 8 and April 12, 2026, which could trigger flooding in some areas.
The alert was released by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment in a notice dated April 8, signed by Usman Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department.
According to the ministry, communities in Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Abia states are at risk.
The notice listed affected areas in each state. In Ebonyi, Afikpo and Nkalagu may be impacted, while Atani, Iyowa Odekpe, Odekpe, and Onitsha in Anambra are also at risk.
In Ogun State, Ayetoro and Ilaro are expected to witness heavy rains. Taraba communities include Donga, Kwata Kanawa, Lau, Serti, Takum, and Yorro, while Edor, Ikom, and Itigidi in Cross River State are listed.
Other identified locations include Igumale in Benue; Nworievbi, Okigwe, Otoko, and Owerri in Imo; Oko Anara in Delta; Port Harcourt in Rivers; and Umuahia in Abia State.
The ministry advised that residents in these areas and surrounding communities remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to mitigate the risk of flooding.
