A prominent politician in Kano State and a leading member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Kano State governorship election on the platform of the party.
Ali Amin made the declaration on Friday in Kano while speaking with senior editors and online publishers.
Responding to questions on why he had not been publicly active in recent times, he said his silence was deliberate and based on experience.
“I have not been quiet. I have actually been very busy,” he said.
“I am, insha Allah, going to contest for the 2027 Kano State governorship election.
“As it is now, we are making sure that everything is on ground and the membership drive of the party is successful and the next thing is the internal democracy arrangements.
“We are preparing for next month’s primary election. Actually, in ADC, I am the busiest politician in ADC in Kano especially in terms of building the party.”
On whether the ADC has the capacity to conduct its primaries amid internal challenges, he said the party remains prepared unless restrained by a court order.
“The only thing that can stop us is when the court gives an injunction that we should stop. We don’t hope so anyway.
“The congress took place in almost all the states of the federation on Thursday 9th April, 2026 with the exception of few due to issues that are peculiar to them,” he said.
Speaking on new entrants into the party and how it may affect his chances in the primaries, he said he remains confident of his standing.
“Who has a better pedigree than me? Nobody.
“Actually, as we speak now, I don’t have a pair in terms of getting into primary election. Anybody that comes forward now has to be junior to me. So I’m a veteran,” he said.
On the reported defection of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the ADC, Ali Amin described it as positive for the party.
“Kwankwaso’s defection to ADC is a positive game changer for us both at the local and at the national levels.”
He also said the party would comply with electoral laws in selecting its candidates.
“In the ADC, we’re going to abide by the provision of electoral Act. The leadership of the party have said so severally.
“There are two ways of electing a candidate for the party – through consensus or direct primary. We will subject ourselves to whichever one that comes. I am ready. Insha Allah, I think the experience and the technical know-how of our leaders in the party will carry us through,” he said.
On the possibility of accepting defeat if he loses the primary, he said he would abide by the outcome of a free and fair process.
“I have been a democrat all my life and have always subjected myself to the rigour of free and fair primary election, adding that as long as it is free and fair why would anybody do otherwise.
“I am a Muslim, I know it is only Allah that gives power. So, I will accept the outcome of the primary,” he said.
Ali Amin also said the ADC had earmarked 70 per cent of appointments for youths, noting that they have the capacity to contribute more to governance.
“The youths have the know-how, they have the IT capacity and can do more things physically than us.
“There are so many things to be done differently but the most important thing is going to be human development, human capital development.
“I am going to concentrate, insha Allah, on poverty eradication to make the vulnerable in the society get the needed help.
“One of the bills I will sponsor in the state Assembly will be social welfare safety measures for the vulnerable in the society.
“What it means is that we are going to help widows that have orphans. We are going to provide them with food stuff. We will upgrade their standard of living to make sure they are living fine and out of the poverty line.
“We will also concentrate on the aged that do not have people to take care of them,” he said.
He further claimed that drug abuse has become a major concern in the state.
“A couple of days ago we received in audience the Commandant of the NDLEA in Kano who disclosed in the gathering that Kano is the epic centre of drug abuse in the whole world, not in Nigeria and not in Africa but in the whole world, saying it is scaring.”
He added that his administration would focus on job creation, education, and healthcare.
“I will also invest in education and healthcare delivery.
“When I clinch the ADC ticket, you will see a blueprint, roadmap of all things. I will tell the people of Kano State how I am going to fix all sectors,” he said.
