The ADC Women in Media on Thursday said the emergence of former Senate President, David Mark, as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress was timely for Nigeria, describing it as a significant moment in the country’s democratic journey.
The group, in a statement signed by its National Communication Officer, Zainab Babajide Olaleye, congratulated Mark on his emergence, describing it as a well-deserved achievement and a milestone for the party.
It noted that the development marks “not only a new chapter in the leadership of the party but also a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.”
The statement, issued under the leadership of its National Coordinator, Hannatu Suleiman Abba, commended Mark’s track record, citing his experience and dedication to national unity.
“Your distinguished record of public service, vast legislative experience, and dedicated commitment to national unity and democratic values have continued to inspire confidence across political and social spheres,” the statement read.
The group further stated that Mark’s emergence comes at a critical time when the country requires visionary leadership to strengthen democratic institutions and rebuild public trust.
“Your assumption of office comes at a critical time when Nigeria requires visionary leadership capable of strengthening democratic institutions, promoting inclusive governance, and rebuilding public trust in political processes,” it added.
Expressing optimism, the group said his leadership would reposition the party.
“ADC Women in Media are optimistic that your leadership will usher in a renewed sense of purpose, discipline, and progressive direction within the party.
“We believe your capacity to foster dialogue, unity, and strategic direction will greatly enhance the credibility and national relevance of the ADC,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its commitment, the group emphasised the need for inclusive leadership, particularly in advancing women’s participation in politics and governance.
“As a critical stakeholder group within the party, ADC Women in Media remain committed to advancing the role of women in politics, governance, and media representation.
“We strongly believe that inclusive leadership—one that prioritises gender equity, amplifies marginalised voices, and supports persons with disabilities is essential for sustainable national development,” it stated.
The group also expressed readiness to collaborate with the new leadership in promoting responsible political communication and civic engagement.
“We also look forward to a collaborative working relationship with your office in promoting responsible political communication, strengthening civic engagement, and ensuring that media advocacy continues to serve as a tool for transparency, accountability, and social inclusion within the party and beyond,” the statement added.
It expressed confidence that Mark’s tenure would be defined by integrity and impactful reforms.
“We trust that your tenure will be marked by integrity, innovation, and impactful reforms that will resonate across all levels of the party structure,” it concluded.
