The Nigeria Police Force has received three specialised buses to boost its operational efficiency and promote sustainable policing.
The buses were donated on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV).
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, said the ceremony marked the official commencement of the transition toward green energy within the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the NPF-TF and PI-CNG & EV for their support.
Disu noted that the transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles was a strategic necessity that aligned the Nigeria Police Force with global best practices in logistics and resource management.
He assured that the new buses would be deployed to improve personnel welfare and mobility.
The IGP further emphasised that the establishment of internal conversion centres would enable the Police to independently maintain its fleet, ensuring sustained technological advancement.
Earlier, the leadership of the NPF-TF and PI-CNG & EV said the donation was the first step in a broader commitment to modernise the Police fleet.
They announced plans to convert existing Police operational vehicles to CNG, a move expected to significantly reduce fuel costs and environmental impact.
According to them, the partnership will also focus on long-term sustainability through capacity building.
The event featured the official handover of the vehicle keys and inspection of the buses.
