The broadcasting community mourns the loss of Alhaji Yusufu Lawal Saulawa, who passed away at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. His death occurred yesterday, Saturday, at a hospital in Kaduna, as confirmed by a family member. He will be laid to rest at Badikko, Kaduna, today at 1:00 PM.
Alhaji Saulawa’s career in journalism began on March 15, 1967, when he joined the Northern Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (BCNN), now known as the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kaduna.
He started as a cameraman and worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming the Director of FRCN, Kaduna, and a zonal director at Radio Kaduna. He also served as the Commissioner for Information in Katsina State.
In the mid-1970s, Alhaji Saulawa worked with the BBC Hausa Service. He gained recognition for his popular radio drama “Dan Arewa A Landan,” which resonated with many listeners.
Alhaji Saulawa’s contributions to journalism and broadcasting will be remembered. His legacy continues to inspire many in the field.
