The Chairman/CEO, A.A Rano Group, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, pledged to rally other wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to support the less privileged students of Bayero University, Kano, in making their school registrations.
This announcement was made in a statement signed by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Garba Lamara, on Thursday.
The statement indicated that the management of Bayero University has sought support from corporate organizations, wealthy individuals, and philanthropists to fund indigent students. This initiative aims to prevent students from dropping out due to financial difficulties.
“A business mogul, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, popularly known as A.A. Rano, has assured the university management of his support for the indigent scholarship scheme. He expressed this commitment during a courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor and university management as part of the mobilization drive for scholarships aimed at assisting the less privileged students in the university,” the statement read.
The statement mentioned that A.A. Rano pledged to rally other wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to support the program, emphasizing that neglecting education would exacerbate numerous societal challenges.
“During the courtesy visit, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, expressed the intention to raise funds to support students who face difficulties registering due to financial constraints.”
Bayero University Kano (BUK) has extended its student registration exercise by one month to provide an opportunity for indigent students to avoid dropping out of school. According to the Director of Public Affairs, the extension of the registration exercise followed appeals from the Kano State Government, student bodies, and the general public.
According to the statement, the registration exercise will now conclude at midnight on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
