The members of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) Kano State Chapter led by its chairman, Prof. Aliyu Muhammad paid a courtesy visit to the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Faruok, on Tuesday 9th January 2024.
The visit was to congratulate the Rector on his appointment and also strengthen the existing relationship between the Society and the Development of Arts and Industrial Design of the institution.
Speaking during the visit, the chairman, Prof. Aliyu Muhammad congratulated, prayed, and wished the Rector a successful tenure full of significant accomplishments.

He emphasized that Art has been in existence since the creation of humans on the surface of the earth. Hence excluding the first letter “e” and the last letter “h” gives “ART”, given this, therefore, its importance in the day-to-day activities of humans cannot be overlooked.
He explained that the profession encourages intellectual advancement and the development of skills that enrich visual arts professionals and their contribution to national development.
He emphasized that the Department of Art and Industrial Design is the only Department that offered four HND programs in Painting, Textiles, Graphics, and Ceramics when it was under Kano State Institute for Higher Education and offers them to date.
Prof. Aliyu maintained that every student of the arts and industrial design is an automatic member of the society, therefore they should be paying at least 500 as the society’s lavy during their registration.
“All members of the society here present are products of the KSP, Department of Arts and Industrial Design, including me as a Professor. We are determined to collaborate more with our department and the institution, in general, to improve the activities of the Arts profession in and outside the state”, Prof. Aliyu added.
Responding, the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Faruok, FCA explained that the visit came at the right time when he was committed to uplifting the image of the institution. He added that every alumnus of the Institution has an integral and pivotal role to play in the development of the institution.

The Rector lamented the poor student enrollment in the development of arts and industrial design which needs to be addressed through collaborative efforts.
He encouraged the society to start organizing career talks on the importance of the profession among secondary school students, educational gatherings, and other important places.
He further urged them to come up with organizing exhibitions where they will be displaying their artistic talents to the public; this will encourage more people to develop an interest in your profession.
He thanked them for the visit, noting that he needed to see their real commitment to improving the student enrollment of their former department.
