The Kano State High Court, presided over by Chief Judge Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has convicted and sentenced five members of the Vigilante attached to Sani Abacha Youth Centre to death by hanging for extrajudicial killing of 17-year-old victim Ahmed Musa.
The five convicted persons, including Emmanuel Korau, Elisha Ayuba, Irimiya Timothy, Auwalu Jafar, and Mustapha Haladu, committed the offense on January 22, 2022, at Sabon Titi, Panshekara, Kumbotso LGA, as stated by the prosecution’s lead counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki.
Soron Dinki explained that on the same date, around 10 am, the convicts conspired to attack the deceased while he was crossing Sabon Titi, Panshekara Road. The prosecution told the court that the defendants emerged from a tricycle, beating the deceased with a long wooden hard stick (club), during which the deceased held the stick.
Continuing, he mentioned that the first defendant used a long sharp knife, stabbing the deceased in his neck, dragging him on the ground, placing him in the tricycle, and taking him away. The victim sustained grievous injuries and a swollen face, eventually leading to his death.
The prosecution presented five witnesses to prove the case, while the defense counsel, Ahmad Muhammad, led the convicted persons and one additional person. Despite the defendants’ denial of the offense, the presiding judge, Justice Aboki, upheld the evidence presented by prosecution Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, expressing full satisfaction.
Justice Aboki commended Soron Dinki for diligent prosecution, stating, “The prosecution has presented its case beyond a reasonable doubt.” Consequently, she sentenced the five defendants to death by hanging.
