The Northern Senators Forum appointed Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua as its new chairman.

This follows the resignation of Senator Abdul Ningi, who represented Bauchi Central.

Yar’Adua, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Katsina Central in the Senate.

The forum also named Senator Tahir Mungono from Borno North as its new spokesperson. He replaces Senator Sumaila Kawu, who received a warning from the Senate for sharing social media posts deemed disruptive.

Ningi previously stated his resignation stemmed from “unfolding events” within the National Assembly, the northern region, and the nation as a whole.

He faced a three-month suspension after alleging N3.7 trillion was unaccounted for in the 2024 budget.

His resignation statement included “I would like to resign my position as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum. This is, of course, necessitated by unfolding events…”
